Smithtown Reef
New York · 9.1–12.2 m
Smithtown Reef is a 31-acre NYSDEC artificial reef in Long Island Sound about 1.6 nautical miles northwest of the Stony Brook Harbor entrance, in 30-40 ft of water. Built from two vessels, six barges, steel pipes and concrete-filled steel cylinders, it offers good relief for tautog, black sea bass and scup. Visibility is typically 10-20 ft and tide-dependent—an intermediate Sound boat dive.
