Lake McConaughy (Kingsley Dam area)

Nebraska's largest reservoir, a 30,000-acre lake on the North Platte River near Ogallala known for white-sand beaches. The Kingsley Dam area and the south shore offer the best visibility (average ~12 ft, up to 30-40 ft at times) and the dam is the most popular dive; walleye spearfishing is the main local dive activity. Deeper targets include remains of the inundated town of Lemoyne around 50 ft and an old highway bridge near 100 ft when the lake is full.

The El Rey is a 100-foot, 133-ton kelp-harvesting vessel that cut kelp for Kelco for 41 years before being scuttled by a Navy demolition team on April 2, 1987, becoming the first ship sunk in San Diego's Wreck Alley off Mission Beach. She sits in roughly 75-85 feet of water and is densely overgrown with red gorgonians and strawberry anemones. A compact, easily navigated wreck often paired with the Ruby E or Yukon on two-tank charters.

White Star Quarry

White Star Quarry is a 15-acre spring-fed former limestone quarry inside White Star Park, a Sandusky County park in Gibsonburg, and is the main inland dive destination in northwest Ohio. Average depth is about 40 feet with two deeper holes at roughly 60 and 80 feet, one at the base of a submerged stone crusher, plus sunken boats and multiple training platforms. The quarry is known for clear water with 30-50 feet of visibility and is heavily used for open-water training.

A NYS DEC Submerged Heritage Preserve protecting the Land Tortoise, a 1758 radeau (a seven-sided floating gun battery) in the south basin of Lake George. Designated a National Historic Landmark in 1998 and described by the Smithsonian as the oldest intact warship in North America. It rests upright and remarkably complete in roughly 105-107 feet of cold water, making this an advanced cold-water dive.

Treat it as a protected reef experience first: no collecting, no coral contact, and use only legal anchoring/mooring areas.

A huge daylight-zone cavern descends along permanent heavy-duty guidelines to about 100 ft, with crystal-clear water, a famous compressor-fed air bell at 30 ft, and a resident softshell turtle named Virgil. Amenities include docks, staging decks, rental gear, fills and on-site lodging.

A historic coastal defense site on the southeast corner of New Castle Island at the mouth of the Piscataqua River, now a state historic site with a sheltered cobble beach entry. The bottom is small boulders with kelp and rockweed giving way to eelgrass in 15-25 feet of water, with little current, making it one of the friendliest novice ocean dives on New Hampshire's short coast.
