Antonio López Wreck

The SS Antonio López, an 1882 Scottish-built Spanish Compañía Trasatlántica steamer, was shelled by the USS Yosemite while running the US blockade and ran aground on Angelina barrier reef off Dorado on 28 June 1898; she was later burned by USS New Orleans and sank in place. The wreck — the only known Spanish shipwreck in US waters from the Spanish-American War — lies substantially intact in about 30 ft (9-10 m) of water roughly a mile offshore, with boilers, machinery, masts, anchors and extensive hull remains easy to identify. Designated a National Historic Landmark in 1997, it is a shallow boat dive best attempted on calm summer days, as the north coast is exposed to Atlantic swell.

Fort Constitution / UNH Pier

A muck-and-critter dive beneath and beside the UNH 325-foot marine research pier at Fort Point, New Castle, next to the historic Fort Constitution. Strong Piscataqua River currents make this strictly a slack-tide dive; the silty bottom hides invertebrate life and old artifacts such as antique ceramic pipes. Best done at high slack after an incoming tide with someone who knows the site.

Port Mansfield

Port Mansfield is a Texas Parks & Wildlife artificial reef in the Gulf of Mexico off the South Texas coast, reached by boat from the Port Mansfield jetties. The nearshore reef site, lying in roughly 65-70 feet of water about seven nautical miles offshore, has been built up with thousands of concrete culverts and a sunken tugboat to create durable fish habitat. Deeper waters in the same general area also hold the separate Port Mansfield Liberty Ship Reef, made of three sunken WWII-era Liberty Ships and several oil-platform jackets. The reefs are designed to serve both recreational anglers and divers.

Summersville Lake - Long Point & Bubble's Cave

Summersville Lake, nicknamed 'The Little Bahamas of the East,' is widely called the clearest freshwater lake east of the Mississippi, with summer visibility of 20-40 ft. Long Point Cliff is the lake's signature boat dive, a towering sandstone formation with walls dropping to about 40 ft, and nearby Bubble's Cave offers a cavern-like ledge with a trapped air pocket about 25 ft down. Both sites are boat-access only and stay clearer than the shoreline areas.

French Cap Pinnacle is an exposed offshore pinnacle south of St. Thomas, usually visited only when sea state is cooperative. The main feature is a cluster of rock spires rising from roughly 95 ft / 29 m to about 40 ft / 12 m, with fish activity around the summit and morays/octopus hiding in cracks. It is a special-trip boat dive rather than a casual daily site.

Cow and Calf Rocks are paired south-side USVI reef formations reachable by boat from St. Thomas or St. John. Divers use the canyons, ridges, swim-through arches, and tunnels around Cow Rock and Calf Rock, with colorful coral growth and frequent reef life. Although often used for intro/certification dives, the swim-throughs require buoyancy control and guide awareness.
