City of Winchester Wreck (Hallaniyat Islands)
Dhofar · 18–30 m
A large historic wreck lying off Al-Hallaniyah in the remote Hallaniyat (Khuriya Muriya) Islands, the first British merchant ship sunk in WWI, now resting at roughly 20-30 m. The broken hull is smothered in fish, with barracuda, batfish, jacks, rays and mobulas regularly swarming the structure in clear, nutrient-rich Indian Ocean water. The islands are reached only by liveaboard out of Mirbat near Salalah and are dived seasonally, with the wider area famous for non-migratory Arabian Sea humpback whales and cold-season whale sharks. This is a remote, advanced destination far from any support.
