Octopus Rock (Musandam)

Musandam · 6–30 m

An isolated, almost circular rock stack about 50 m in diameter lying roughly 3 km offshore north of Lima in Musandam, its sides dropping more or less vertically to a mixed rock-and-sand seabed. The pinnacle is wrapped in soft and hard coral and attracts dense schools of fish, with current funnelling around the rock to feed the life. Depths run from the shallow cap to around 30 m on the surrounding seabed. It is a popular boat dive from Dibba, suited to divers comfortable with some current.

Lima Rock (South)

Musandam · 5–40 m

The southern face of the Lima Rock pinnacle in Musandam, a more sheltered alternative to the north side when current or swell is running. Walls and boulder slopes descend steeply to a sandy seabed well beyond 40 m, with rich soft-coral growth and schooling reef fish. Currents are usually present and can be strong, so the side dived is chosen on the day according to conditions. Reached by boat from Dibba, it shares Lima Rock's reputation for healthy fish life and occasional pelagics.

Map of Lima Rock (North)

Lima Rock (North)

Musandam · 5–40 m

Musandam's most famous dive, a limestone pinnacle island about 800 m long and 200 m wide rising 1.5 km off Ras Lima, reached by roughly a 50-minute boat trip from Dibba. The north side combines reefs, slopes and sheer walls with numerous swim-throughs, sheer cliffs dropping near-vertically to about 12 m before boulders and scree run to a sandy bottom beyond 60 m. Strong currents can sweep the site and feed prolific fish life including large schools, making it a classic advanced drift wall. Soft and hard corals carpet the rock and pelagic encounters are common.
