Philadelphia Quarry

A 3-acre spring-fed quarry off I-75 exit 68 between Knoxville and Chattanooga, used year-round by East Tennessee divers and training classes. Six small boats sit at depths of 30-65 ft and training platforms are set at roughly 16, 20, 25, 30 and 74 ft, plus a buoyancy course. Summer water temperatures reach about 80 F with typical visibility around 25 ft.

Tessie Steel Boat

Tessie is a small steel boat deployed as part of Escambia County's public artificial reef program in state waters off Pensacola Beach. It sits on a sand bottom in about 77 feet of water and shows as a very small mark on sounders. Like the other nearshore Pensacola reefs it concentrates snapper, grouper and baitfish on an otherwise featureless seabed.

Corporation Beach in Dennis is widely regarded as Cape Cod's best shore dive: a classic white-sand Cape Cod Bay beach with a rock jetty at its left end. The dive area outside the jetty is a mix of medium rocks, boulders, sand, and eelgrass beds in no more than about 20 ft of water, and the bright sand bottom often gives the site unusually good visibility. Restrooms and a seasonal snack bar make it a good spot to bring non-diving family. Best dived within an hour of high tide on days without northerly wind.

A designated conservation area on the west shore of Hood Canal about 2 miles north of Hoodsport, widely considered one of Washington's premier shore dives. Two main walls (north and south) drop to 70-80 ft with deeper walls beyond 100 ft for technical divers, plus a sunken boat north of the north wall and a small wreck between the walls. The site is not current-sensitive, and resident giant Pacific octopus and mated wolf eel pairs are the headline attractions.
