Low visibility (averages about 7 feet, and outfall from local waterways greatly reduces it after rain or storms); cold fresh water; sharp, cracked steel and partially dynamited wreckage with snag potential; the surrounding lakebed is a flat, featureless sandy plain, so navigating off the wreck is disorienting — DNR requires a travel line between the mooring and the wreck. Removal of any artifacts is prohibited (NRHP-listed site) and can carry fines.
