Adjacent restricted military watersPooles Island itself (~4 km north) is part of Aberdeen Proving Ground with unexploded ordnance and prohibited access. The reef consists of submerged concrete rubble in open bay water with boat traffic; upper Chesapeake Bay sites are not documented dive destinations.
