Site details

A WWII German destroyer that deliberately grounded on 13 April 1940 during the Second Battle of Narvik and now lies in Rombaksbotn at the head of Rombaken, a branch of the Ofotfjord, where parts of the bow still break the surface. The hull snapped and capsized, leaving a substantial wreck running from the shallows down a slope into deeper, dark fjord water. It is among the most popular of the many Narvik wrecks, dived in cold, often low-visibility conditions amid an underwater WWII graveyard. Several other destroyers and supply ships lie elsewhere in the Ofotfjord.
