Kakaban Jellyfish Lake

A landlocked, mangrove-fringed marine lake in the centre of Kakaban island, home to millions of stingless jellyfish from several species that have lost their sting in isolation. It is a snorkel-only attraction (scuba is prohibited to protect the fragile jellyfish), reached by a short walk over the island's raised rim. One of only a handful of jellyfish lakes worldwide.

Kal's Dream

Two underwater pinnacles (tops at about 7 m and 2 m) lying northwest of Kepa island in the Pantar Strait, swept by the powerful Indonesian Throughflow. When the fierce, shifting currents calm enough to dive, it offers spectacular fish action with dogtooth tuna, Napoleon wrasse, trevally and sweetlips over current-flattened coral. One of Alor's flagship advanced dives, only run when conditions are right.

Good conservation site in the middle, corals are good, and rich. Site may have strong currents in between tides. High turbidity in the deepest part of the valley.
Lava Flow (Gunung Api)

A signature Banda dive on the north flank of the Gunung Api volcano, where a 1988 lava flow ran into the sea and was rapidly recolonised by hard coral. The result is one of the densest, fastest-growing Acropora reefs in Indonesia, draped over black volcanic substrate from the shallows down a sloping reef. It is one of the most reliable sites in the region for mandarinfish at dusk.
