The Back Side is Molokini's exposed outside wall, a classic advanced wall/drift zone with vertical relief, clear water, and larger pelagic encounters when conditions cooperate. It is not a beginner or snorkel-focused site. Buoyancy and depth control are central because the wall drops far below normal recreational depths.

Tunnels, also called Makua Beach, is a north-shore Kauai shore dive and snorkel site with a horseshoe reef, outer drop-off, lava tubes, caves, and tunnel-like reef structure. It is excellent in calm summer conditions but can be hazardous in winter or high surf. The site works for snorkeling inside the protected reef and scuba on the outer features when conditions allow.

Boat reef off Waikiki/Honolulu known for Hawaiian green sea turtle cleaning stations on lava finger reefs and coral heads. It works for beginner scuba and is also used by snorkel/freedive boats in calm conditions. The main safety issue is surfacing/ascending around heavy boat, catamaran, canoe, and tour traffic.

Turtle Pinnacle is a North Kona boat dive around a submerged volcanic pinnacle and turtle cleaning station. The site rises into shallow water and drops to moderate depths, making it a relaxed boat profile when currents are light. Its main draw is watching green sea turtles being cleaned by reef fish while maintaining wildlife distance.

West Oahu wreck/artificial-reef dive around the Mahi minesweeper area off Waiʻanae. The wreck is known for eagle rays, reef fish, and coral-encrusted structure, but collapsed sections make penetration inappropriate. Treat the current PickADive record as a composite Mahi/Navy Barge reef-area record unless later split by precise official coordinates.

Advanced boat dive on two adjacent artificial-reef wrecks off Waikiki: the larger Navy yard oiler YO-257 and the smaller San Pedro fishing vessel. The pair is often dived as a dual-wreck route, with turtles, reef sharks, eagle rays, trevally/amberjacks, and a visible tourist submarine route. Penetration is possible only for trained divers and should remain guide- and conditions-dependent.

A lava cinder cone at the north end of Ka'anapali Beach fronting the Sheraton Maui, dived from the sandy beach on either side. The rocky ledge wraps the point in 10-32 ft with reliable turtles, eels and reef fish; a classic easy West Maui shore and night dive. Currents strengthen past the tip of the point.

South Maui's signature shore dive off Nahuna Point near Makena Landing, also called Turtle Town. A reef honeycombed with caves, arches and ledges in 10-50 ft where green turtles rest and whitetip reef sharks pack the 'shark condo' cavern. Usually entered from the sandy ramp at Makena Landing Park with a surface swim, or directly off the rocky shoreline at Nahuna Point.

A Marine Life Conservation District on West Maui's north tip with dense coral gardens along both sides of the bay in 10-40 ft, a sand channel down the middle sloping to ~60 ft at the mouth. Decades of protection mean rich fish life and frequent turtles. Divable in summer; in winter it transforms into one of Hawaii's most famous surf breaks.

The collapsed remains of Lahaina's Mala pier - knocked down by Hurricane Iniki in 1992 - now form one of Hawaii's best artificial reefs in only 10-35 ft of water. The fallen concrete slabs and pilings shelter resting whitetip reef sharks, abundant green turtles, frogfish and dense fish schools. The area was affected by the August 2023 Lahaina wildfire, but the boat ramp and dive site have reopened and diving has resumed.

A convenient shore dive at the old runway beach park just north of downtown Kailua-Kona. A short swim over a lava ridge at ~30 ft leads to coral structure, arches and small caverns sloping to sand around 70-100 ft. A favorite local site for quick tank dives and night dives when seas are flat.

The Big Island's most famous shore dive, named for the natural two-step lava ledge entry beside the Honaunau boat ramp, next to Pu'uhonua o Honaunau (Place of Refuge) National Historical Park. A shallow coral shelf drops quickly down a steep slope to sand at about 100 ft, with superb hard coral and frequent spinner dolphins in the bay. Beginner-friendly in the shallows but easy to get deep.

Wailea's go-to training and refresher shore dive: a calm sandy entry between two rocky points, with reef beginning in a few feet of water and extending along a lava point to 20-45 ft on the outer reaches. A turtle cleaning station makes honu sightings likely. The easiest entry/exit in South Maui, heavily used by instructors for first ocean dives.
