A gravel pocket beach at Ocean View Boulevard and Coral Street in Pacific Grove, near Point Pinos. Beyond the eelgrass-covered boulders of the shallows, the bottom forms a sawtooth pattern of rocky ridges and sand channels running parallel to shore, rich with invertebrate life and coralline algae. The shallow rocky approach makes it a high-tide dive, and it is more exposed than the sites inside Monterey Bay.

Corporation Beach in Dennis is widely regarded as Cape Cod's best shore dive: a classic white-sand Cape Cod Bay beach with a rock jetty at its left end. The dive area outside the jetty is a mix of medium rocks, boulders, sand, and eelgrass beds in no more than about 20 ft of water, and the bright sand bottom often gives the site unusually good visibility. Restrooms and a seasonal snack bar make it a good spot to bring non-diving family. Best dived within an hour of high tide on days without northerly wind.

Scenic Laguna Beach cove with sandy entry and rocky reef structure on both sides, with most points of interest in 15-35 ft. Strong swimmers or kayak/boat divers can continue roughly 300-400 yards offshore to Deadman's Reef, a pinnacle complex rising to about 20 ft with 45-65 ft on its flanks. The site lies inside the no-take Laguna Beach State Marine Reserve.

The most popular dive access within Crystal Cove State Park, reached by a long trail and ramp down from the Reef Point parking lots. Distinctive tilted rock fingers run offshore, with the best reef structure in roughly 30-50 ft straight out from the rocks, and a 150-year-old historic anchor sits in about 20 ft near the Muddy Creek ramp. The area lies within the Crystal Cove State Marine Conservation Area, which restricts take of most invertebrates.

The CSX Boxcars are railcars deliberately sunk as an artificial reef about 18 miles offshore from Orange Beach, lying in roughly 70 ft of water. The structures attract a variety of reef fish and make an accessible mid-depth dive.

Dale Hollow is one of the clearest reservoirs in Tennessee and draws divers from hundreds of miles away. The most popular dive is the submerged foundation of the old Willow Grove Schoolhouse, part of a village flooded when the dam was completed in 1943, reached easily from the Willow Grove campground and marina area. Old roads, barn foundations and other ghost-town traces remain on the bottom, with the schoolhouse outline sometimes visible from the surface.

The schooner Daniel Lyons sank in October 1878 after being rammed by the schooner Kate Gillett, settling in 110 ft of water eight miles northeast of Algoma. The wreck is somewhat broken but nearly all hull structure and rigging are represented, with frequently excellent visibility (40-100 ft) that makes it a favorite of advanced divers and underwater photographers. A WHS seasonal mooring buoy marks the site.

A natural sandstone wall at the south end of the Tacoma Narrows near Day Island, just south of Titlow Beach. The sheer main wall runs south of the entry to about 110 ft, with shallower ledges and cutbacks in 40-55 ft to the north and a reported deeper wall starting around 100 ft and running to roughly 140 ft. Swift Narrows currents carve dens that shelter numerous wolf eels and giant Pacific octopus, but the same currents make this an advanced, slack-only dive planned around minor exchanges (max ~2.4 kt predictions); current along the wall runs opposite to the mid-channel flow.

The wreck of the propeller freighter Dean Richmond, a 238-foot vessel lost with all 23 crew in the great storm of 14 October 1893 off Dunkirk, New York, near the New York/Pennsylvania line in Lake Erie. The wreck lies inverted in about 95 feet of water with the upside-down hull standing roughly 30 feet off the bottom. A favorite advanced Lake Erie wreck dive, often paired with the nearby Indiana.

The narrow channel between Whidbey and Fidalgo Islands where Skagit Bay meets the Strait of Juan de Fuca, with tidal currents that can scream through at up to 8 knots. The huge water exchange feeds some of the most densely colorful invertebrate-covered walls in the Pacific Northwest, but the site is diveable only on a handful of minimal-exchange slack windows scattered through the year, and true slack can fail to materialize. Whirlpools, downwellings and instantly reversing current make this an expert-only dive, usually done with boat support and local knowledge.

A large reservoir at the top of Provo Canyon between Provo and Heber, dived mostly around the island near the state park entrance and along Sailboat Beach toward the dam. Maximum lake depth is about 137 feet with typical visibility of 7-10 feet, so it serves mainly as a convenient training and altitude-diving site for Wasatch Front divers. US-189 follows the shore, making access easy.

The Atlantic Mist was a 185-ft, 640-ton WWII Patrol Craft Escort (PCE-880) later converted to a menhaden fishing boat, sunk as reef material on the tri-state DelJerseyLand artificial reef about 26 nautical miles from Indian River Inlet. The reef site bottoms out at 121-131 ft, making this an advanced cold-water wreck dive shared by Delaware, New Jersey and Maryland divers alongside the destroyer USS Arthur W. Radford.
