A lava cinder cone at the north end of Ka'anapali Beach fronting the Sheraton Maui, dived from the sandy beach on either side. The rocky ledge wraps the point in 10-32 ft with reliable turtles, eels and reef fish; a classic easy West Maui shore and night dive. Currents strengthen past the tip of the point.

Blue Grotto is a privately operated sinkhole/cavern dive resort in Williston and one of Florida's most popular training sites. A huge daylight-zone cavern descends along permanent heavy-duty guidelines to about 100 ft, with crystal-clear water, a famous compressor-fed air bell at 30 ft, and a resident softshell turtle named Virgil. Amenities include docks, staging decks, rental gear, fills and on-site lodging.

A spring-fed cove on the Snake River in the Hagerman Valley's Thousand Springs area, famous for vivid turquoise water created by geothermally warmed groundwater welling up through volcanic rock. The site is reachable only by water (kayak, canoe or paddleboard) on a roughly 1.5-mile downstream paddle from Banbury Hot Springs. The pool is shallow and exceptionally clear, popular for snorkeling and easy diving, with spring water holding around 58F year round.

Phil Foster Park under the Blue Heron Bridge in Riviera Beach is widely rated the best shore dive in the USA and a world-class muck/macro site. An 800-ft artificial snorkel trail of reef balls, boulders and small wrecks sits about 200 ft off the beach in 6-15 ft of water, while the bridge pilings and sand flats (max ~20 ft) hide seahorses, frogfish, octopus, batfish and other rarities. The catch is timing: strong tidal flow near Lake Worth Inlet means diving is only comfortable in the slack window around high tide, and a dive flag is strictly enforced.

An artesian spring sinkhole on Route 66 in Santa Rosa and the most famous dive site in the US Mountain West. The bell-shaped pool is about 60 feet across at the surface, widening to roughly 130 feet at the 81-foot bottom, with a constant 61 F temperature and visibility around 100 feet thanks to a flow that renews the water continuously. A city-issued dive permit is mandatory, purchased at the on-site dive center, and the high altitude (~4,600 ft, with higher passes on the drive out) demands altitude dive planning.

A 9-acre, 60-foot-deep geothermal spring-fed pond in the desert about 16 miles south of Wendover on BLM-managed wetlands within the Utah Test and Training Range. Bottom water holds near 85 F year-round, making it Utah's main winter training site, with two submerged platforms and diver-placed metal sculptures (hammerhead, turtle, rhino, praying mantis), boats and other objects to explore. A boardwalk crosses the marsh from the parking area to the water; summer algae blooms can cut visibility to a few feet.

A flooded lead-and-zinc mine pit in Oronogo, Missouri, minutes from Joplin, that filled with water after mining ceased in the 1950s. As 'Bluewater Lake,' its 14 acres of clear water reached depths of 200-230 ft — among the deepest inland dives in the Midwest — with training platforms, sunken attractions, flooded mine roads, and caves, run for decades by Captain John's Sports & Scuba. The site closed to diving around 2012 during EPA Superfund remediation of the surrounding mining district, with the pit used to receive lead-contaminated waste.

A 26-acre flooded limestone quarry in Pelham, Alabama, operated as a full-service dive park and billed as Alabama's premier inland dive site. Depths range from about 4 to 140 ft with an average of 100 ft, three 20-ft training platforms, training pools with 4- and 10-ft platforms, and sunken attractions including fire trucks, cars, boats, and a school bus. Surface temperatures hit 86 F in summer while the bottom stays 52-54 F; visibility runs ~25 ft in summer and 50-100 ft in winter. Full facilities on site: bathrooms, outdoor showers, gear tables, rentals, and air/nitrox fills.

A flooded former lead mine in Bonne Terre, MO, holding a billion-gallon underground lake with around 100 ft visibility and a constant 58 F water temperature. Twenty-four numbered dive trails wind past pillars, ore carts, scaffolding and other mining artifacts; all dives are guided by staff dive guides with an assigned safety diver. New visitors must complete trails 1 and 2 before progressing, and advanced 'Bear Trail' dives venture into unlit sections for proven divers. Operated by West End Diving as a commercial dive resort.

Nestled against the Kiamichi/Ouachita mountains beside Beavers Bend State Park, Broken Bow Lake has a rocky bottom and some of the clearest water in Oklahoma, with visibility of 10-40 ft. The deep reservoir (average around 200 ft in the old river channel) offers cliff walls divable to about 140 ft, plus valleys and rocky crevices, mostly reached by boat. Thick silt pockets can blow out visibility if disturbed, and heavy boat traffic makes flags mandatory.

A flooded 27-acre historic brownstone quarry in Portland operated as an adventure park, with 80-100 foot cliffs surrounding clear fresh water. Scuba diving is permitted in the north quarry for certified divers who buy an adventure pass, with depths to about 85 feet and submerged quarry features and attractions to explore.
