Connecticut's largest lake, a 1928 man-made reservoir whose flooded valley still holds old roads, stone walls, foundations, Model T-era vehicles and small plane wreckage that divers seek out. The Candlewood Lake Authority acknowledges it as a popular dive destination but warns that it is dark, low-visibility diving requiring lights and preparation. Most diving is done from boats or town launch areas around the lake.
