A Marine Life Conservation District and state historical park on the Kona coast where Captain Cook was killed in 1779. The best diving is at Ka'awaloa Cove near the Cook Monument, where pristine coral shallows fall away to a dramatic drop-off reaching beyond 100 ft. Access for divers is essentially by permitted boat - vessel permits are required on the bay and landing at Ka'awaloa Flats is prohibited.
