Cedar Pride

Aqaba Governorate · 7–26 m

The Cedar Pride is a cargo vessel deliberately sunk in November 1985 to create one of the Red Sea's most photogenic wreck dives, lying on its port side across two reef pinnacles at 7-26 m within the Aqaba Marine Park. It rests on its side, giving easy access to the bridge, masts and two large cargo holds, which are now heavily encrusted with soft corals and home to abundant marine life. The site suits divers of most levels and is regularly run as both a shore and boat dive.

Gorgon 1

Aqaba Governorate · 5–18 m

Gorgon I is a shallow, easily accessed reef dive in the Aqaba Marine Park, named for two large gorgonian sea fans found on the site. The reef carpets a gentle slope to about 18 m with dense hard and soft coral cover and clear water, making it well suited to beginner and newly certified divers. Shallow pinnacles host moray eels, lionfish and coral groupers.

Japanese Gardens Coral Reefs

Aqaba Governorate · 5–30 m

The Japanese Gardens is one of Aqaba's most popular reef sites, a sloping coral garden running from shallow water down to around 30 m within the protected Aqaba Marine Park. The mix of shallow and deep terrain, including a deeper Black Coral Valley between roughly 26 and 30 m, makes it suitable for snorkelers, beginners and more advanced divers alike. Table corals, schooling fish, moray eels and turtles are regularly seen.

Aqaba Governorate · 15–17 m

This is the C-130 Hercules transport aircraft sunk off Aqaba in November 2019 to create an artificial reef and dive site, resting upright and roughly level on a flat sandy bottom at about 16-17 m, around 300 m from shore. With a 30 m fuselage and ~40 m wingspan, it is shallow and easy to navigate, suiting beginner divers. A 2020 storm tore at the aluminium hull, but fish now shelter in the cockpit and under the wings.

Rainbow Reef is a colourful reef site in the heart of the Aqaba Marine Park, sloping gently from about 6 m down to roughly 30 m with dense red, yellow, purple and blue soft and hard corals. Calm conditions and good visibility make it suitable for all levels, and it is one of Aqaba's most popular night dives, when Spanish dancers, lobsters, feather stars, moray eels and lionfish are active. Telecommunications cables laid in 1996 between Jordan and Egypt run through the site, with an adjacent protective wall now acting as an artificial reef.
