Atlantic Beach Reef is a 413-acre NYSDEC artificial reef about 3 nautical miles south of Atlantic Beach in 55-64 ft of water. Built from scuttled vessels, barges, pontoons, railcars, bridge sections and concrete rubble, it forms a productive habitat for black sea bass, tautog and scup. Visibility is typically 10-20 ft and conditions are exposed Atlantic, making it an intermediate boat dive.

The Denver metro area's main training dive site, with a dedicated roped-off scuba beach and dive area on the reservoir's eastern shore. The signature attraction is a Cessna twin-engine airplane purpose-sunk in 1994 in about 30 feet of water, marked by a buoy; the silty bottom keeps visibility in the 5-10 ft range. The dive area is open April 1 to October 1, dawn to dusk, and is heavily used for open-water checkouts, navigation, and search-and-recovery practice.

The Australasia, a 285-ft wooden bulk steamer, burned and was lost in October 1896 while carrying 2,200 tons of coal, grounding south of Jacksonport near Cave Point. The remaining wreckage lies in about 20 ft of water 350 yards off the Whitefish Dunes State Park beach, with bow and stern sections partially intact. A seasonal WHS mooring buoy marks the site, which is popular with beginner divers, snorkelers and kayakers.

Casino Point Dive Park (Avalon Underwater Park) is a roughly 2-2.5 acre roped-off, no-take marine reserve beside the landmark Catalina Casino in Avalon, widely regarded as the best shore dive in California. Custom concrete stairs with handrails lead straight into a lush giant kelp forest over reefs, mini-walls and sand flats from 10 to 100 ft, with several small wrecks including the 54-ft sailboat Suejac (bow at ~95 ft), the Kismet, a glass-bottom boat and a sunken swim platform, plus an underwater Jacques Cousteau memorial plaque at about 35 ft. Established in the 1960s as the first non-profit underwater park in the country, its protected status makes the fish unusually bold and the site ideal for everyone from open-water students to photographers.
