A 528-acre natural lake in Salem/Bozrah/Montville famous for the house that fell through the ice in 1895 while being moved across the frozen lake, settling in deep water near the middle. Divers have long visited the collapsed structure, though by the 2000s it was reported mostly rotted away. The site is usually reached by boat from the state launch.

The tailrace below Garrison Dam near Pick City and Riverdale, about 70 miles northwest of Bismarck, is North Dakota's signature dive: a cold, dark drift/current dive famous for close encounters with 6-7 ft American paddlefish, plus sturgeon, walleye, burbot and catfish. Water released from the bottom of Lake Sakakawea keeps the tailrace frigid year-round, and visibility tops out around 15 ft; locals time dives to zero-release (dam shutdown) periods announced by the Army Corps for calmer, clearer conditions. The riverbed downstream is the longest unaltered stretch of the Missouri system and yields bison bones and other artifacts.

An 88-foot schooner-rigged sailing canal boat built in 1862 that crashed into the Burlington breakwater in a December 1876 gale while hauling marble, her crew leaping to safety onto the icy stones before she sank. She rests upright and remarkably intact on her keel in just 40 feet of water, 75 yards west of the breakwater's southern end, with dead-eyes, windlass, and mast tabernacles still visible. As the shallowest and most popular Vermont Underwater Historic Preserve wreck, it is an ideal first freshwater wreck dive; it is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

A high-altitude reservoir of about 3,000 acres between Anaconda and Philipsburg, popular for fishing and watersports and used by local divers. Maximum depth is around 85 feet with limited visibility (roughly 5 to 10 feet). The shallow, weed-lined basin supports abundant trout and is a convenient regional freshwater dive at altitude.

Gilboa Quarry in Putnam County is widely regarded as the Midwest's premier inland dive site, a 14+ acre spring-fed former limestone quarry operated commercially for diving since 1990. Depths range from 25-foot training shelves to about 140 feet along sheer limestone walls, with sunken attractions including a Grumman airplane, a Sikorsky helicopter, school buses, boats and the 'Nemo's Garden' freshwater underwater biosphere. The quarry is famous for its resident five-foot paddlefish and visibility that averages 30-40 feet.

Ginnie Spring is the flagship spring of the privately owned Ginnie Springs Outdoors park on the Santa Fe River and one of the most famous freshwater dive sites in the USA. Open water divers can enter the Ballroom, a large grated cavern reaching about 50 ft with exceptional clarity, while the adjacent Devil's Eye/Devil's Ear system offers world-class cave diving for certified cave divers. The park offers camping, on-site air/nitrox fills, gear rental and 24-hour diving for guests.

The Gladys B is a 102-foot 1937 tugboat scuttled in April 2018 about 22 nautical miles south of Fort Morgan in roughly 100 feet of water, with the superstructure rising to about 62 feet below the surface. Donated by Steiner's Shipyard, it was deployed by the Alabama Marine Resources Division specifically to broaden the state's appeal as a diving destination. The intact superstructure offers structure and shelter that quickly attract reef fish in the otherwise flat, sandy Gulf bottom.

The Glenlyon was a 328-ft steel package/bulk freighter built in 1893 that ran aground on a shoal off Menagerie Island while seeking shelter in Isle Royale's Siskiwit Bay on November 1, 1924, carrying 143,000 bushels of wheat. The wreck is broken and scattered across the reef in 15-60 ft of water, with the bow on the bay side of the shoal and the stern on the lake side, but the pieces lie close to their original positions and large sections — including the engine room with triple-expansion engine, drive shaft, propeller, and boilers — remain intact. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, it is one of the ten major wrecks protected within Isle Royale National Park.

The schooner Grape Shot, built in Buffalo in 1855 with an eagle figurehead, grounded on the north side of Plum Island in a November 1867 gale. Its scattered remains lie in about 8 ft of water on rock and sand 0.18 miles northwest of the Plum Island U.S. Coast Guard station in the Death's Door passage. A shallow boat/kayak dive and snorkel best done in calm weather given the passage's notorious currents.

A 22-square-mile protected live-bottom reef about 16 miles east of Sapelo Island and 40 miles from Savannah, one of the largest nearshore sandstone reefs in the southeastern US. Ledges and rocky outcrops in 55-75 ft of water carpeted with soft corals, sponges and tunicates host more than 200 fish species, sea turtles and seasonal sharks. Anchoring is prohibited, so all dives are live-boat drift dives timed close to slack tide; the southern third of the sanctuary is a research area closed to diving.

A 1,000-plus acre Maryland artificial reef 20 nautical miles east of the Ocean City Inlet in 95-110 ft of water, centered on the historic 'Twin Wrecks': the 322-ft steel cargo ship Saetia (a WWI-era loss) and the upside-down bow section of the tanker Oklahoma, which broke in two in 1914. Cable piles and reef material around the wrecks hold plentiful lobster, and the site draws sea bass, tautog and pelagics in season.
