Map of El Fanadir North

El Fanadir North

Red Sea Governorate · 5–40 m

El Fanadir North is the northern section of the long Fanadir reef just outside Hurghada bay, around 4 km offshore. A reef wall drops to roughly 10-12 m onto a sandy plateau that then falls away in a drop-off beyond 30 m, making it an easy, relaxed drift along coral-covered walls and cleaning stations. The sheltered profile makes it suitable for beginners and photographers alike.

Red Sea Governorate · 1–18 m

El Gouna's easily accessible house reef lies off Zahabia beach and is reached directly from the shore via the resort dive centre, making it ideal for training, check dives, and repeat sunrise/sunset/night dives. It offers a gentle slope with a good cross-section of typical Red Sea hard and soft corals and reef fish. The relaxed conditions suit beginners and macro photographers.

Map of El Mina

El Mina

Red Sea Governorate · 25–32 m

El Mina is a roughly 70 m Soviet-built T43-class minesweeper of the Egyptian Navy that was sunk by Israeli aircraft while moored off Hurghada harbour during the 1970 War of Attrition. She lies on her port side on a rocky seabed sloping from about 25 m at the bow to 32 m at the stern. Just a short boat ride from Hurghada, she is one of Egypt's most accessible warship wrecks and is now colonised by glassfish and lionfish.

Map of Elphinstone Arch

Elphinstone Arch

· 50–60 m

On the southern plateau lies the legendary Elphinstone Arch, a roughly 10m-high tunnel that pierces the reef and connects the eastern and western walls at a depth beyond 50m. It is well outside recreational limits and should only be penetrated by properly trained technical divers. The arch is steeped in local legend and is one of the Red Sea's most famous deep features.

Map of Elphinstone North Plateau

Elphinstone North Plateau

· 20–40 m

The northern tip of cigar-shaped Elphinstone tapers into a finger-like plateau between roughly 20 and 40m, best reached by dropping in north and drifting onto it. Purple dendronephthya, brown soft corals, gorgonians and crowds of redtooth triggerfish flutter in the current here. Reef sharks and, in season, oceanic whitetips cruise the plateau edge.

Excalibur (Suzanna)

Red Sea Governorate · 12–22 m

Excalibur is a steel cargo vessel that rests upright on a flat sandy bottom at about 18-22 m off Hurghada, a short boat hop or swim from shore. Years of growth have turned the hull into an artificial reef, with soft coral on the deck rails and large schools of glassfish in the wheelhouse. Sitting at Open Water depth and lying perfectly upright, it suits divers of all levels with the holds and engine room reserved for more experienced visitors.
