One of the most celebrated dive sites in the world, sitting at the southern tip of the Sinai where the Gulfs of Aqaba and Suez meet the Red Sea. Two coral pinnacles rise from great depths to near the surface forming dramatic walls and a 12-20m plateau, with hundreds of anemones and their resident clownfish in the shallows. Adjacent lies the cargo of the wrecked Cypriot vessel Yolanda, with toilets, bathtubs and pipework scattered across the shallow reef.

Black Pearl - Red Sea

Black Pearl is a beach-club and restaurant venue on the Hadaba (south Sharm) coast that fronts a fringing house reef used for snorkeling and shore diving. The reef table gives way to a wall and slope typical of the Hadaba coastline, with colourful reef fish and soft and hard corals. It functions more as a shore-access reef and beach facility than a dedicated boat dive site.

Blue Hole

The Blue Hole is a roughly 100 m-deep submarine sinkhole in the fringing reef just north of Dahab. Recreational divers explore the shallow rim and the saddle linking it to the open sea, while the famous Arch tunnel at around 52 m is reserved for technical divers. It is notorious worldwide for fatalities among divers attempting the Arch beyond their limits.

Far Garden

Far Garden is the northernmost of the three Gardens dive sites reached by boat from Naama Bay. The topography is a sloping coral wall dropping to around 40 m, fronted at the start of the dive by large coral pinnacles draped with gorgonian fan corals and several small caves. The exposed headland acts as a channel for larger pelagics, with occasional manta ray and whale shark sightings.

A Ras Mohammed wall dive whose porous reef face holds several short, penetrable caves with separate entrances and exits, the first opening around 6m and running roughly 40m through the reef. A German-built cargo ship (launched 1963, later Adamastos and Zingara) that ran aground on the northern reef bordering Tiran island in 1984 while carrying phosphate from Aqaba, losing most of its bow on impact. The roughly 80m wreck lies parallel to the North Laguna wall within about 12m of water, with a visible winch, six-cylinder engine and propeller, surrounded by lush table corals said to have flourished on the spilled phosphate nutrients.

The Louilla is a Panamanian cargo ship of around 3,461 tonnes that ran aground on the northern side of Gordon Reef in the Strait of Tiran in the early 1980s, with its bow section still protruding above the surface. Diving the area centres on Gordon Reef's southern plateau (about 10-25 m) and a coral valley dropping to 30-40 m. Strong currents are common in the strait, and the site is part of the standard Tiran day-boat circuit from Sharm el-Sheikh.

Million Hope

The largest wreck in the Red Sea, a roughly 175m cargo vessel that ran aground on the reef north of Sharm el-Sheikh in June 1996 while carrying phosphates and potash from Jordan; all 25 crew were rescued. It sits upright in about 24m with its starboard side against the reef and five huge cargo holds, dived as a multilevel route from the coral-encrusted stern crane forward to the bow and back along the deck. Because it lies at the exposed mouth of the strait it is weather dependent, with strong currents and swell.
