A designated 10-acre scuba refuge inside Greenbo Lake State Resort Park in northeastern Kentucky, the first of its kind in the state park system (opened 2013). The 225-acre fishing lake averages about 25 ft deep in the refuge area and gives Tri-State (KY/OH/WV) divers a sanctioned freshwater training and fun-dive spot. Divers sign in and out at the lodge and must display dive flags.

The Noquebay was a 205-foot schooner-barge that burned and sank in Julian Bay off Stockton Island in 1905. The wreckage field lies in only 10-15 feet of water, trending north/south for about 230 feet, with large intact sections of bow, sides and machinery variably exposed or buried in sand. Marked by a Wisconsin Historical Society mooring buoy, it is one of the Apostle Islands' most popular beginner wreck dives and an excellent snorkel and kayak site.

A quiet cove on Ocean View Boulevard about a quarter mile up the coast from Lovers Point in Pacific Grove, named for the sea otters that frequent its kelp beds. A broad shallow shelf of kelp- and coralline-covered rock in 10-15 feet extends offshore before the bottom slopes gradually to around 60 feet. Far less crowded than the Monterey classics, but the rocky shallows make it a high-tide dive.

The 301-ft wooden bulk carrier Frank O'Connor caught fire and sank on October 3, 1919, while carrying 3,000 tons of coal, settling in 65 ft of water about 2.6 miles north-northeast of Cana Island. Its museum-quality triple-expansion steam engine and boilers rise more than 20 ft off the bottom, making it one of Door County's signature wreck dives. Two WHS seasonal mooring buoys mark the bow and engine.

Magnolia Rocks (at Kettle Cove in Gloucester's Magnolia village) is a long granite ledge sloping into the sea, fronting a sand bottom strewn with medium and large boulders that run several hundred yards offshore. The boulder field shelters abundant lobsters and fish life, but the bare ledge entry is fully exposed to southerly swell and is considered one of the most hazardous entries/exits on Cape Ann — strictly a calm-day site for experienced divers.

Seacrest Cove 2 ('Alki Cove 2') at Seacrest Park in West Seattle is one of the most-dived sites in Washington and the unofficial heart of Seattle's dive community. A gradual rocky slope descends past artificial structures - the famous Honey Bear wreck around 35 ft, I-beams, small boat wrecks and junk piles - that shelter the site's headline residents: giant Pacific octopuses. The cove lies within the WDFW Alki Beach Seacrest Coves 1, 2 and 3 octopus-harvest preserve, created after a controversial 2012 octopus take here. Easy stair-and-beach entry, minimal current, free street parking and city skyline views make it ideal for training and night dives, but it is genuinely cold - drysuits are the norm.

A spring-fed 10-acre former quarry near Athens operated as a private scuba diving resort. The clear water holds more than 40 sunken attractions including boats, jet skis, statues and training platforms, and the quarry is famous for its resident paddlefish. A sharp summer thermocline sits around 25-30 ft, with surface temperatures reaching the 80s F.
U.S. Virgin Islands - St. Croix · 6–35 m
Salt River Canyon is a boat-access St. Croix wall system at the edge of the Puerto Rico Trench, usually dived as East Wall/Barracuda Bank and West Wall/The Pinnacles. Moorings and reef tops start in shallow-to-mid recreational depths, but the canyon walls drop far beyond recreational limits. The site is known for dramatic topography, reef fish, sea fans, sponges, rays, turtles, and occasional pelagic life.

A long-established shore dive at Far Rockaway near the East Rockaway Inlet in Queens, once home to the 'Almost Paradise' dive shop. Underwater jetties at 8th and 9th Streets give some shelter from current and host surprising biodiversity. Still frequented by local dive clubs and instructors for its easy access and training value.
